The Young Worker Toolkit is part of the Australian Government’s commitment to promote fairness for and information to young people to help them make a positive transition into work.
The Toolkit is a web based resource, optimised for smartphones, which helps young people find answers to common questions about how workplace relations laws apply to them.
Employers of mature age workers aged 50 or over who mentor or support an Australian Apprentice or Trainee in the workplace, may be able to access training grants of $4 950 (GST inclusive) per employee under Experience+ Training to give a mature age worker new skills. Certificate IV courses including workplace training and assessment, project management, frontline management are targeted—but there is no set list of courses.

The More Help for Mature Age Workers initiative, is a complementary program to Experience+ Training. The initiative is part of Building Australia’s Future Workforce – Skills to promote increased participation. Over the next three years, 7 500 workers aged 50 years and over with trade relevant skills but no formal qualifications will have the opportunity to have their skills assessed and formally recognised. An innovative new national apprenticeship program is assisting up to 1000 experienced workers by having their existing skills recognised and then complete all the competencies required to obtain a full trade qualification within 18 months.
