Project funding of up to $250,000 (GST exclusive) is available for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to develop projects to implement competency-based training models. Applicants must address the following selection criteria in their proposals:
Extent to which the proposed approach uses innovative strategies, resources or activities to achieve its objectives.
Extent to which industry and employers will be involved in the project and how the training to be delivered meets the requirements of the participating employer/industry.
Capacity of the proposed approach to reduce the timeframe for the completion of apprenticeships whilst maintaining (or improving) quality.
Clearly demonstrated link to demand for skilled tradespeople in the industry and region being serviced.
Extent to which the activity will increase the status of apprenticeships.
Extent to which the activity will contribute to the number of apprentices completing apprenticeships.
Evidence that the approach will contribute to more timely completion of apprenticeships in the long term including the extent to which the proposal will:
Evidence that grant funding will contribute directly to achievement of objectives. The extent to which value for money is enhanced through contributions (which can be in-kind) from other parties participating in the project activity.

To apply for project funding:
RTOs funded are required to submit a Final Outcomes Report in order to fulfil their funding obligations. Funded RTOs will need to download and complete this Final Report template and submit to DEEWR as required in the funding agreement.
Lead organisations can apply for funding to broker competency-based training apprenticeship models/activities to alleviate skill shortages. These models/activities should increase the number of apprenticeships completed on demonstrated competence rather than time served.
Only lead organisations that have been operating an effective, nationally recognised competency-based training apprenticeship model in the proposed industry for at least five years are eligible for funding. These organisations should have demonstrated broad development, promotion and implementation of this model with industry on a regional and/or national level. To apply for brokerage funding:
