Ministers Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices- The Awards process

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible employers are those who have employed an Australian Apprentice (apprentice or trainee) between 1 January 2007 and 31 January 2008.  Group Training Organisations are ineligible, however, Host Employers can apply.  To encourage diversity and best practice, winners of the 2007 Minister’s Awards for Excellence are ineligible to enter the 2007 Awards.

Selection of Winners

Winners will be selected on a regional basis. There are twenty-two regions across Australia and one winner will be selected for each region. The regions are:

Regional Selection Panels

Selection panels will be convened in each of the 22 regions throughout Australia as previously indicated. These panels will comprise representatives from DEEWR and industry, and will select three finalists from each region. One regional winner will be selected from these three finalists, and will be invited to attend the gala dinner where the Minister will present their award. The remaining two employers will be notified and awarded a framed certificate which will be sent directly to them via courier.

Award Presentations

Winners will be advised by DEEWR of the awards ceremony details.  Each winner will be invited to send three representatives from their organisation to the awards ceremony, one of which is to be an Australian Apprentice.  Flight, accommodation and meal costs for the three representatives will be met by DEEWR. 

Important information for applicants

Information on this application form is collected in order to assess applicant’s eligibility for the 2008 Minister’s Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices, and to promote the benefits of the Australian Government apprenticeships programs. The information collected may be used by DEEWR, and by contractors of DEEWR to publicly promote the programme locally or nationally. In other instances, information on this form can be disclosed without your consent where authorised or required by law.  Please note that by applying for the 2008 Minister’s Awards, employers accept that DEEWR may undertake checks with State Training Authorities pertaining to training and workplace matters.

How to Apply?

Applications for the 2008 Employer Awards have now closed. All applications are currently undergoing a comprehensive short listing and selection process with a winner being selected from each of the 22 regions across Australia. The selection panels will convene during May, and all applicants advised of the outcome in late June.
