The Selection Process

Entries in all categories were considered by judging panels (regional panels in the case of the Employer Awards and a National judging panel for the Minister’s Award for Support Services Excellence and Minister’s Award for Excellence for Commitment to Australian Apprentices) comprising senior departmental staff, industry/ employer representatives and state/ territory training authority representatives.

For the Employer of Australian Apprentices Award, winners were chosen from 22 regions across Australia. In the Minister’s Award for Support Services Excellence and Minister’s Award for Excellence for Commitment to Australian Apprenticeships categories, three national finalists were chosen for each award category. The winners were then interviewed by the judging panel to determine the national winners.

Winning employer applications

What are employers of Australian Apprentices doing to achieve standards of excellence? Recent feedback from organisations that applied for the 2009 Minister’s Awards for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprenticeships indicated that there was great interest in what it is that organisations are doing in the workplace to achieve excellent standards of training and support for employees.

As a way to share this best practice, the following applications from winning employers demonstrate what processes and programs have been initiated to provide positive outcomes for both the employer and Australian Apprentices.

The applications have been edited to ensure anonymity and employers from a range of industry sectors, organisational size and structures have been included.
