Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle), Diploma of Small Business and Certificate IV in Fitness

Canberra Raiders legend Alan Tongue is well-qualified to speak about the value an Australian Apprentice can bring to an employer.

Alan completed a Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle) through the Canberra Institute of Technology, part-time while starring for the Raiders across a career that spanned 12-years and 220 matches in the NRL.

Alan was an apprentice mentor at the Canberra Raiders in the NRL’s Trade UP with the NRL program which aims to match players starting an Australian Apprenticeship with local employers.

“Hiring an apprentice has a range of benefits for businesses including strengthening the skills base and helping to ensure they are prepared for the future,” Alan said.

“Putting time and money into training can increase business’ turnover and earning potential.

“You can also learn from young apprentices, and what they study off-the-job.

“During my apprenticeship, I learned the latest technical skills and was able to share these in the workplace.”
