Traineeship the ‘right option’
Alexandra Reeve credits a sit-down with her group training organisation (GTO) for putting her career on-track.
The now 22-year-old had tried three university courses and was ‘at the crossroads’.
The meeting with 370 Degrees Group involved Alexandra sharing her interests and strengths, before a number of training options were identified.
“I knew that a traineeship was the right option for me,” Alexandra said.
“My GTO laid out a number of possibilities based on my strengths and left the final decision to me.”
From the Melbourne suburb of Warrandyte, Alexandra completed a Certificate IV in Business while employed with the Victorian Government Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
She now works in the office for the Victorian Government Minister for Education.
“I found being on-site and actually working during the day was really valuable during my traineeship,” she said.
“I was able to learn about the private sector during my studies while learning about government at work which was really interesting.”
“I think I was selected because I am really proud of what I am doing and showed initiative and enthusiasm in the workplace,” she said.
“Everyone has been so supportive during my traineeship while pushing me to learn new skills which I am already benefitting from.
“Completing a traineeship has not only put my career on-track but developed my confidence to be a valuable member of the team.”
