Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology

For Ashton Brown, every spare childhood moment was spent helping her father repair and maintain machinery on her family’s dairy farm in the north east of Tasmania. This clear passion she developed throughout her younger years lead to a full time career. Ashton applied for a position at Farm Machinery Tasmania and was offered an apprenticeship, Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, which she undertook at TasTAFE. Despite being told on several occasions she wouldn’t sustain a career in a male dominated industry Ashton was determined to follow her passion and pursue a career that she was already developing the skills for. She feels it is important to break the stereotype and with the skills and knowledge she has acquired throughout her training. Ashton is an excellent role model for females seeking to join the industry.

Ashton was recognised for her outstanding contribution to vocational education and training at the 2017 Australian Training Awards where she was a finalist for the Australian Apprentice of the Year Award after being named winner of this category in her home state of Tasmania.
