Holly's beauty therapy
Holly Browne’s flair for beauty therapy has been recognised on the national and international stage, but her journey began when she completed a Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy.
“I had a strong interest in skin care and wellbeing from an early age- and dreams to travel and teach. I can safely say that within a few years of completing my Australian Apprenticeship, I’ve already realised both these dreams and have a career that I jump out of bed for each day!” Holly said.
Holly’s road to international success began when she entered her regional WorldSkills competition, and won gold.
“My apprenticeship was the start of an amazing journey. When I had finished, I wanted to test my skills and see how I ranked against others in my profession. When I won gold regionally, and then bronze at the WorldSkills national competition, I gained the confidence to realise that I had skills that could take me overseas to work; something I had always wanted to do,” she said.
Holly went on to receive a coveted position as a member of the 2007 Team Australia Skillaroos, where she represented Australia in the Beauty Therapy category at the 39th WorldSkills International Competition held in Shizuoka, Japan and won a Medallion of Excellence. Upon her return to Australia, Holly started applying for work in London and landed herself a high profile beauty therapy position in an exclusive London day spa.
“Working in London was a fantastic experience. My apprenticeship was highly regarded by my manager and colleagues in the salon. I was able to add to my knowledge the latest beauty techniques of some of London’s best make-up artists,” she said.
After two years in London, Holly returned to Australia with a desire to give back some of what she had gained through her Australian Apprenticeship. She went on, to complete a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and was appointed Program Manager for Beauty Therapy at The Australian Institute of Applied Sciences (AIAS) Melbourne.
Since then, Holly, has taken on a new job and is now the International Corporate Trainer for Spa Connectors. Her current role involves, visiting '5 star' day spas across the globe to train their beauty therapists, as well as audit and review the spas to help them to reach their full potential. One week Holly could be in Phnon Phen, Cambodia, the next week in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates or be heading to Phuket, Thailand.
“The last few years made me realise how important my apprenticeship was in teaching me everything I needed for a successful career in beauty therapy. I couldn’t recommend this career pathway enough. It’s the start to a really fulfilling career,” Holly said.
