‘Apprenticeship allowed me to create my own story’
Jessica dreamed of a career in creative fashion and was thrilled to secure an Australian Apprenticeship at the respected Cataldo’s Salon in Canberra.
Friends and family had encouraged her to pursue tertiary studies, but the vocational pathway was a better fit for the Australian Capital Territory-resident.
Jessica has worked at fashion festivals in Melbourne and Canberra, as well as on editorials and short films since completing her qualification.
“My Australian Apprenticeship allowed me to fulfil my dreams of working on high fashion and catwalks within the industry,” Jessica said.
“Opportunities such as L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Week allowed me to work side by side with some of the biggest names in the industry whilst learning new skills.
“The training program was tailored to my needs and allowed me to work at my own pace.”
In 2013, Jessica completed a Certificate III in Hairdressing from Canberra Institute of Technology and was an Australian Apprentice of the Year finalist at the 2014 Australian Training Awards, after winning the ACT title.

“My Australian Apprenticeship allowed me to create my own story and be part of the hairdressing industry,” she said.
“I have finished my Australian Apprenticeship, but it is just the beginning.
“I plan to continue my studies, enter competitions, travel and continue to train and support new Australian Apprentices.”
