Katherine’s painting solutions

An Australian Apprenticeship in painting and decorating gave Katherine Howden the skills she needed to start her own business.

Along the way, the 28-year-old won a gold medal at the 2010 WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Brisbane and was awarded a 2011 BBM Scholarship.

The scholarship saw Katherine completing a leadership program in Wales before heading to London to watch the WorldSkills International Competition.

The Melbournian then spent two and a half weeks in Kent undergoing work experience from Quality Decor.

“Completing an Australian Apprenticeship has given me the real world skills needed by my industry,” Katherine said.

“I have the skills to be my own boss at my own business with Katherine’s Painting Solutions, where I work by myself, painting new and old residential homes around Melbourne.

“As I grow and develop my business, and advance my skills and knowledge, I want to hire my own apprentices.”

Katherine is continuing her involvement with WorldSkills Australia, speaking to regional Victorian winners and assisting at WorldSkills Australia National Competitions.

Katherine also completed a Diploma of Arts (Interior Decoration and Design) in 2005.
