Luke Covell’s career in the NRL with the Cronulla Sharks and Wests Tigers resulted in 153 matches, 62 tries and praise for being one of the most admired players in the competition.

Luke retired in 2012 and has since started an Australian Apprenticeship through TAFE NSW – North Coast Institute where he is on-track to gain a Certificate III in Plumbing.

“Starting an apprenticeship was the most attractive choice for a career change,” Luke said.

“After four years as an apprentice, I will have the piece of paper I need to be able to find work almost anywhere.

“Having a nationally recognised qualification will open up doors for me – doors that lead to a high paid career and potentially being my own boss.”

Luke’s on-field achievements include:
• 2008 Dally M Point Scorer of the Year
• Captain of the Cronulla Sharks
• New Zealand representative

Luke worked with the NRL through its Trade UP with the NRL program.

The former winger is an apprentice mentor at the Gold Coast Titans where he assists players in finding employers willing to hire them as Australian Apprentices.
