Certificate II in Hospitality

Montana Ahwon is a Miriwoong Gajeroong woman from Kununurra in Western Australia's East Kimberley.

After enduring family tragedy at a young age and leaving school early, Montana set a new path for herself and joined a hospitality pre-employment program Certificate I in Hospitality with Kimberley Group Training. Excelling in the course she commenced a traineeship in Certificate II in Hospitality in 2015 at Hotel Kununurra.

Montana really enjoyed her traineeship and acknowledged it was very good experience. She was able to learn a lot on the job and it helped build her confidence.

She would say to anyone who is thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship to "stick to it, it's worth it and will start your pathway to bigger and better things". Montana aims to continue her studies and gain business qualifications in the future.

In 2016, Montana won the National NAIDOC Apprentice of the Year award.
