Champion tiler to sales representative

Peter Steinweiss is the only Australian to ever win a medal at a WorldSkills International Competition in the Wall and Floor Tiling category, an achievement he credits to his Australian Apprenticeship.

From Silverdale in New South Wales, Peter won a bronze medal at the 2009 WorldSkills International Competition after winning a gold medal at the 2008 WorldSkills Australia National Competition.

The 26-year-old completed a Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling in 2008 through TAFE NSW - South Western Sydney Institute and is now employed at Parexgroup Australia as a sales representative.

“An apprenticeship gives you great opportunities to excel in a career,” Peter said.

“Once you have finished your trade you have the opportunity to become more independent and one day become your own boss.

“I always encourage people who are thinking about an Australian Apprenticeship to do one – it can fast-track your career.”

Since becoming qualified – Peter remains involved with WorldSkills Australia as a judge and also represents Parexgroup Australia at various trade nights and training sessions.

Throughout his Australian Apprenticeship and involvement with WorldSkills Australia, Peter developed the skills and knowledge required to become a sales representative for Parexgroup Australia, where he gives expert advice to clients.

Peter hopes to build on this during the short-term and continue his professional development with the company.
