Setting her sights on Paris
Since she was seven years old, Savannah de Oliveira has had a passion for hairdressing and, as soon as she was old enough, she started working at Whispa Salon Spa.
The following year, Savannah was able to commence an Australian School-based Apprenticeship at the salon while still attending Lucas Heights Community School.
Savannah studied at TAFE NSW – Sydney Institute, where she was fast-tracked from a Certificate II to a Certificate III in Hairdressing.
“My learning experience has been intense but amazing,” Savannah said.
“I have worked very hard with working in a salon, completing my HSC and going to college once a week.
“At times I thought to myself why am I doing this?
“But then an amazing opportunity would come up to work at hair expo or work for a designer and I would quickly realise why I did this.”
She hopes to qualify as an internationally recognised hairdresser by the time she is 19 years old, and enjoys creating beautiful looks for bridal, formal and celebratory functions.
Savannah worked backstage styling at Sydney’s Hair Expo in 2014, and looks forward to opening salons under her own brand all over the world as well as styling at Paris runway shows.
“I would tell anyone thinking or starting an Australian School-based Apprenticeship that you should go for it,” she said.
“Be prepared to break out of your comfort zone but be ready for the reward of showing yourself what you are capable of.
“It has been my best decision yet and will be yours too!”
Savannah was the 2014 NSW School Based Apprentice/Trainee of the Year and a Finalist in the 2014 Australian Training Awards.
