Shane’s European adventure

Combining a love for travelling with a passion for building has resulted in Shane Rofe taking the skills learned through an Australian Apprenticeship to Europe.

Shane completed his carpentry and joinery Australian Apprenticeship in 2010 before adding a Certificate IV in Building and Construction in 2011 to his impressive resume.

While undertaking his Australian Apprenticeship, Shane won the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in 2010.

This success opened doors for the former Bowral resident who was awarded a BBM scholarship by WorldSkills Australia.

The scholarship paid for Shane to participate in a two-week leadership and teamwork program in the UK.

He was also awarded the Australian Overseas Foundation (AOF) scholarship that provides young Australian trades people with the opportunity to work overseas.

“Due to these scholarships, I worked in England as a joinery tutor in a skills centre that provides training for unemployed people,” Shane said.

“It is a government funded initiative aimed at supplying the unemployed with skills and qualifications that will help them return to the workforce.

“When I return to Australia I hope to start my own property development company.”
