Certificate II in Business Services and Certificate IV in Screen and Media
Banking on success in an Australian School-based Apprenticeship
Completing a Certificate II in Business Services with the National Australia Bank (NAB), Tyrone Pynor sees his Australian School-based Apprenticeship as an opportunity to gain the skills to make real decisions about his choice of career path.
As a team member at NAB’s Merrylands branch, Tyrone gained experience in all aspects of banking services, including understanding of financial products and services and the value of effective communication in the workplace when dealing with customers, colleagues and managers.
His training provided him with opportunities to develop his communication, problem solving and time-management skills, helping him balance his training, work and school commitments effectively.
Undertaking his Australian School-based Apprenticeship gave Tyrone practical experience of professional expectations, confidence and the chance to demonstrate his leadership skills.
However, it was during his time at NAB that Tyrone realised that the business pathway was not his ultimate dream career. He wanted to follow his passion and move into a creative job.
He accepted a job at the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and is now a Broadcast Trainee studying screen and media. “I’m one of the first Broadcast Trainees that SBS have employed and the first high school graduate they have taken on since the 1980’s and it’s all thanks to my VET qualifications!”
Tyrone was recognised for his outstanding contribution to vocational education and training at the 2016 Australian Training Awards where he was a finalist for the Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year Award after being named winner of this category in his home state of New South Wales.
