Australian Apprenticeships Ambassadors Ryan Grieger and Lily Campbell took home silver and bronze medals respectively at the WorldSkills International Competition held in Abu Dhabi last week.
In an interview with news.com.au after the four day competition, carpenter Ryan said he was “truly proud to represent my country and to win a medal for them is even better. It’s an honour!”
With the outstanding results overall at the competition, Australia has moved up into the top ten skills nations in the world, following the performance by the ‘Skillaroos’ at the WorldSkills International competition in Abu Dhabi.
The Australian medal winners were:

Industrial mechanic, Brad Ingham
Australian Apprenticeships Ambassador and beauty therapist Lily Campbell
Bricklayer, Trystan Sammut
Ambassador and hair stylist Gaby Ware was named the best competitor all around for the Australian team (Best in Nation).
The WorldSkills International Competition is the biggest celebration of vocational education and training (VET) globally, with 1,259 competitors from 58 countries and regions competing in 51 skills categories.
Of the 18 Australian Apprentices and VET students making up Australia’s ‘Skillaroos’, a total of 13 are Australian Apprenticeships Ambassadors. Ambassador Peter Steinweiss also attended the competition as an Skills Expert in the floor and wall tiling competition.
This year, the Skillaroos have a higher proportion of female competitors than ever before, who are competing in such categories as car painting, heavy vehicle maintenance and hairdressing.
